Inclement Weather Plans - How Future Stars Does It

T-shirts, shorts, the sun shining bright, and beach-appropriate temperatures. The summertime sure is magical, isn’t it?

For children who attend summer camp on the regular, this time of the year is beyond exciting.

What we sometimes forget is that even during the summer, some days can bring some uncomfortable weather, from heavy thunderstorms to blistering heat waves.

But what does this mean for our summer camps?

Here’s how Future Stars handles our inclement weather plans and what campers can expect from these days.

What Happens If It Rains?

Not every day of the summer can have the sun shining without a cloud in sight. There’s a chance that some days of your child’s summer camp experience will have some rain.

Here’s the good news: Future Stars camps keep going no matter what. Rain or shine.

So, what changes if the weather isn’t so great?

If excessive rain or thunderstorms start, each of our six campsites has ample interior space and facilities to entertain campers indoors. Campers will be actively engaged with a series of indoor activities until the rain dies down, at which point we will return to our regular schedule.

However, sometimes the rain is forecasted for the entire day. On these rare occasions, camp staff might make arrangements to visit local indoor recreational facilities, depending on the situation and the scheduling.

No matter what the weather calls for, Future Stars is well-prepared to keep campers entertained and having a good time.

What Happens if the Heat is Excessive?

As much as we love the sun, heat, and all of the potential activities that summer brings, there are times when the heat can get completely out of hand. In these situations, remaining outside in the heat with ordinary scheduling and activity plans could be dangerous.

Future Stars camp staff has extensive experience working in the heat. When temperatures climb uncomfortably high, camp staff will adjust the daily schedules accordingly. This means that physical activity periods will be shortened based on the level of heat. There will also be additional scheduled water breaks throughout the hot days to ensure that campers are staying hydrated. We’ll also maximize the usage of shaded areas to keep campers comfortable.

Lastly, our staff will educate campers on the importance of early warning signs in regard to dehydration and heatstroke. In many cases, understanding these early signs and knowing when to stop for a break is crucial and can potentially save campers from hurting themselves.
