Meet Rickie, this is his second year at Future Stars Camps and he is looking forward to new experiences.

Farah:  When did you start at Future Stars Camps?

Rickie:  Something like 1-2 years ago. Maybe 1 ½ years ago.

Farah: What programs did you do last summer?

Rickie:   Rising Stars.

Farah:  How old are you now?

Rickie:  I’m 7.

Farah:  Do you have siblings?

Rickie: I have a little brother. He can probably come to Rising Stars next year.

Farah:  What program are you in? Which programs are you in this summer?

Rickie:  I'm in chess now and then STEAM, maybe swimming and soccer.

Farah:  What have you been working on in Chess camp?

Rickie: The coach taught the whole group different techniques. The first one, he taught us was king and queen against lonely king. Second, king and rook against lonely king and he talked a little bit about king and pawn against lonely king.

Farah:  Did you find these things helpful?

Rickie:  Not in games because in games the opponent doesn’t lose all of their pieces except for the king so it's hard.

Farah:  You played against the little computers too right?

Rickie:  Yes, the computers have good moves but they have less pieces but the computer usually does the same thing but sometimes it does different things. The coach teaches us how to get through all of the levels. The first level, I did was Ultra 1, same as the whole group and then we go up. The last day, I got to Pawn Power 4.

Farah:  That’s amazing! How many levels is that?

Rickie:  A lot!

Farah:  What was your favorite part of the week in chess?

Rickie:  The coach in the middle of the week, after teaching us techniques, would have competitions to see who could do them the fastest.

Farah:  What are you most looking forward to at Future Stars Camps?

Rickie:  I actually do wonder about how soccer will be. I’m looking forward to it.

Farah:  Do you have a favorite singer or musical artist?

Rickie:  I don't really listen to music because I listen to piano songs the most.

Farah:  Who’s your favorite musician?

Rickie:  It’s someone from China.

Farah:  Do you remember his name?

Rickie:  Yes, but you probably you won’t know him.

Farah:  What are your hobbies?

Rickie:  I usually do math 4-5 times a week and I come to Future Stars Camps. This is my 2nd to last or 3rd to last week because I might go to Swim camp.

Farah:  What’s the best part of being a kid?

Rickie:  Probably learning or something.

Farah:  What grade are you going into? What do you most enjoy about school?

Rickie:  2nd. They teach really good stuff.

Farah:  What do you want to be when you grow up?

Rickie:  I have no idea.

Farah:  What’s your favorite memory from camp?

Rickie:  I really liked Rising Stars. I really liked meeting my friends and playing together.

Farah:  Great meeting you Rickie, hope you have a great time at all the other camps you will be attending and I have a feeling that soccer will meet your expectations!
