Who Is Caring for Your Child at Camp?

Sending your child to summer camp is a big decision, and you want to feel confident they're in the best hands. Understanding who will care for your child and how the camp staff operates can bring you peace of mind.

Fortunately, a dedicated team of professionals works together to ensure your child's safety, growth, and endless fun. Every Future Stars staff member is committed to providing an exceptional experience for your camper.

Future Stars Dedicated Staff Structure

Each Future Stars Summer Camp location features a clear organizational structure designed to provide expert care and supervision. It's a team effort, with different roles contributing to your child's positive camp journey.

Site Director

This individual is the leader at each camp location, ensuring every aspect of your child's experience is exceptional. The Site Director oversees all operations, making certain every camper enjoys a safe and memorable summer.

Program Director

Within each specialized camp (like soccer or cheer), a Program Director leads the way. These individuals are experts in their field, often with many years of coaching experience across various levels. They develop the curriculum and activities, communicate with parents about program-specific matters, and assist with hiring staff for their program.

Health Director

Every camp location has a dedicated Health Director on site. This is your go-to person for any questions or concerns about your child's health, including allergies, and the point person for managing any medications your child may need during camp. They will use the medical information provided on your forms to ensure exceptional care for your child.

Office Manager

Since coaches and staff members spend their days actively engaged with campers, an Office Manager is available to speak with you by phone or email during business hours. This individual answers most questions, gets information to coaches, and ensures smooth communication.

Coaches

Every program has Head Coaches overseeing activities, with one or more Assistant Coaches providing support as needed based on group size and activity.

  • Head Coaches: These are the more experienced coaches within each program. They often coach during the year at the high school or college level, bringing in-depth expertise in their sport or activity. This understanding helps kids with competitive goals meet and even exceed them.
  • Assistant Coaches: Assistant Coaches often include graduate students and college athletes. They work alongside the Head Coaches to support campers.
  • Additional Coaches: Our additional coaches are important members of the team, and play a big part in ensuring that all campers – even kids who might be shy or anxious – have a great camp experience. Not only do they help with logistics like bathroom breaks, they give kids one-on-one attention throughout the week when needed.

The number of coaches varies based on the sport or activity, but you can generally expect a low camper-to-coach ratio. Typically, there is one staff member for every six to eight campers. Often, for smaller groups,  individual sports or special activities, the ratio is even lower.

Highly Qualified and Passionate Staff

The staff at Future Stars Summer Camp is chosen for both their professional qualifications and their genuine love for working with children.

Expertise and Credentials

Site Directors and Program Directors often have extensive hands-on experience in their sport or activity. Many coaches and staff members are educators working in schools during the year, bringing valuable insights into child development beyond athletic skills.

Health Directors range from nurses to EMTs, holding all health certifications required by county and state regulations to handle any injuries, emergencies, or medication concerns.

Rigorous Hiring Process

The selection process for employment at Future Stars Summer Camp is thorough.

Every staff member undergoes a comprehensive screening process that includes interviews, reference checks, and background checks.

Many new staff members come highly recommended by former staff, which helps build a trusted team.

Staff are also selected based on personality qualities, such as a consistently positive attitude and the ability to serve as role models.

Required Ongoing Training and a Staff Focused on Safety

Your child's well-being is paramount, and this commitment is backed by dedicated training and established protocols.

  • All staff members participate in a pre-season orientation and training. This ensures everyone understands how to teach and coach children in a positive, reinforcing way, and are equipped with best practices for activities and drills.
  • Throughout the summer, staff receive periodic professional development. This keeps ideas fresh and energy high, which directly benefits your child's experience.
  • All staff members receive essential safety training, including CPR and First Aid.

On a daily basis, staff are constantly engaged, ensuring active supervision and adherence to weather and safety protocols during all activities.

An Experienced, Diverse, and Dedicated Team

You'll find that the camp staff is a mix of experienced professionals and a diverse group of individuals who enrich your child's experience.

  • High Staff Retention: A high percentage of staff return each year, with around 75% of Head Coaches and 50-60% of Assistant Coaches coming back. This consistent presence of familiar, elite coaches allows children to form strong bonds and feel comfortable returning year after year.
  • Diverse Perspectives: Expect to find a mix of male and female coaches. Many Assistant Coaches are college athletes from different parts of the country and the world. This exposure to various backgrounds, even within the same sport, offers incredible value for campers, broadening their perspectives.
  • Personalized Grouping: Coaches are often assigned to camper groups for the week. Program Directors thoughtfully decide whether to maintain consistency with the same coach or introduce different voices, always ensuring the core teaching and values remain consistent throughout your child's program.
