BroadwayCon is an opportunity for fans to meet Broadway stars and it happened the last week of January, so if you missed it, OnStage blog shares interviews with some of the distinguished leaders of the most lauded theater festivals in NYC. If you haven't heard about these festivals here is a chance to find out:
- Planet Connections Theatre Festival is celebrating it's 10th year anniversary and is held in early July. The festival this year “can be about anything under the sun,” while stating that they believe “that theater artists are the perfect people to motivate philanthropy, community outreach, environmental awareness, and social change. Every production in the festivity does work to support a charity of their choosing.” Applications for their 2018 festival are open now.
- Downtown Urban Arts Festival takes places before the start of the summer and presents a wide variety of works, that highlight urban life in America and promotes the underrepresented communities in the arts, including women playwrights, playwrights of diverse racial backgrounds, and LGBTQ playwrights.
- Fresh Fruit Festival highlights LGBTQ playwrights from all over the world. "The festival is specifically designed “from the very earliest planning stages to be inclusive of all genres of LGBT arts and aspects of LGBT life, with a diverse array of artist ethnicity and viewpoint.” This year's festival dates are July 9 - July 22. Late Submission Deadline: Monday, February 26th. ($35 Late Reading-Fee due)
- New York New Works Festival include current and previous Broadway and television panelists who volunteer their time “to review the work of aspiring writers. The festival for writers “is a chance, and that was the objective of this project: to give people a legitimate opportunity.” Application deadline: July,15,2018
