What is the Daily Schedule Like at Future Stars?

Thinking about sending your child to camp and wondering what their day-to-day will look like? At Future Stars Summer Camp, you get a fun, engaging, and well-structured environment for all campers – no matter their age or activity.

While the specifics vary by location and your child’s camp program, here’s a general idea of what a typical day might hold.

A Day at a Glance: Balancing Skill Development and Fun

At Future Stars, each day is thoughtfully structured to provide campers with comprehensive instruction in their chosen program while ensuring plenty of fun and recreation.

While your child’s day will vary by program and location, here's what a typical day of skill development and fun might look like for your camper:

  • Drop Off and Warm Up (9:00-9:30 AM): After morning drop off, campers ease into the day with a fun activity or game.
  • Core Skill Building (9:30-11:30 AM): The morning focuses on developing fundamental skills and techniques specific to each program, all taught through engaging, fun-focused methods.  Program-specific examples might include tennis drills, basketball stations, swim stroke work, drama skills, or hands-on STEAM projects.
  • Skills Application (11:30 AM-12:00 PM): Campers put their newly learned skills to practice through exciting competitions, creative projects, or collaborative activities that make learning enjoyable.
  • Lunch Break (12:00-1:00 PM): Time to refuel with friends before afternoon activities!
Swimming & Recreational Period (1:00-2:15 PM): All programs incorporate swimming or water activities to provide a refreshing and fun break between skill sessions. Many sessions also incorporate games after lunch.
  • Afternoon Skill Session (2:15-3:30 PM): Campers return to their program focus with fun activities like sports scrimmages, rehearsals, artistic creation, or STEAM design challenges that build confidence while encouraging creativity.
  • Daily Wrap-Up (3:30-4:00 PM): Depending on the program, the day might conclude with final games, practice, or a daily recap.

Elements like the departure time also vary based on the camp program and location.

A Deeper Look at the Future Stars Daily Schedule

Your child's day at Future Stars is carefully designed to balance skill-building with recreation. From morning drop-off through to pick-up, here’s a deeper dive on what to expect.

Morning Drop Off

The day usually kicks off with arrival between 9:00 a.m. and 9:15 a.m. This 15-20 minute window allows for a smooth drop-off process, whether you're bringing your child directly or arriving by bus at some locations.

The action starts as soon as your camper arrives!

Expect your child to jump into a warm-up activity or a "get-to-know-you" game. This helps them get active in a relaxed environment that promotes building relationships with other campers.
Around 9:15 a.m., a more formal warm-up begins, and by 9:30 a.m., they're typically diving into their first activity period.

At some locations, Future Stars offers door-to-door bus service for drop-off and pickup.

Skill-Focused Instruction and Activities in the Morning

Throughout the day at Future Stars, your child will receive focused instruction designed to have fun while building skills in their chosen program.

Whether they're developing their tennis serve, perfecting basketball techniques, or creating artistic masterpieces, skilled coaches provide developmentally appropriate training.

Morning sessions typically concentrate on technical skills and fundamentals. For example, tennis campers might work on forehands, backhands, and volleys, while basketball campers engage in specialized station work focusing on dribbling, shooting, and defensive techniques.

The Future Stars experienced staff bring a wealth of expertise in their respective fields and are trained to adapt their teaching methods to suit varying developmental needs and skill levels.

Whether your child is just starting out or looking to hone advanced techniques, they’ll receive personalized attention and instruction that maximizes their learning and enjoyment.

All Programs Get to Enjoy Time Outside

Time to enjoy the warm summer weather is precious – especially when you live in the Northeast!
That’s why even indoor-focused programs like STEAM, Drama, and Magic Camp include outdoor recreational time.

Your child will spend at least one or two periods each day getting fresh air and engaging in physical activities on the field, regardless of their chosen camp program.

This balanced approach ensures every camper benefits from both exploring their chosen activity and the joy of summer outdoor play (weather permitting, of course!).

Swimming, Water Activities, and Games

A highlight of the camp experience is time dedicated to swimming or other water activities. This is typically scheduled after lunch.

For locations without pools, exciting water activities such as water slides help your child cool off under the supervision of attentive staff, ensuring both safety and enjoyment.

In many programs, afternoons are also the time for games. Afternoon sessions of sports programs might include friendly competitions or scrimmages. For instance, tennis players might participate in Davis Cup competitions, while baseball campers could play in World Series scrimmages, and basketball campers may compete in league play.

In other programs centered on STEAM, the arts, performing, or other specialty activities, afternoons are still full of fun and games.

When applicable, this is often the time to prepare for their end-of-camp performance!

For example:

  • Art and STEAM campers participate in cooperative games or free design
  • Kids in drama camp often enjoy theater games and rehearse for their end-of-session show
  • Cheerleaders and dancers might practice routines for final performances

Breaks and Rest Time

Throughout the day, your child has plenty of opportunities to stay refreshed and recharge. While your child can always have their water bottle nearby, you can also expect several water breaks to keep everyone hydrated.

For meals and snacks, there's generally:

  • A morning snack break
  • A lunch period (around 40-45 minutes)
  • An afternoon snack break

Additionally, Future Stars builds in less structured periods after lunch. This time isn't necessarily designated “quiet time,” but it's a good time for campers to recharge and engage in more casual play, such as a game of whiffle ball or Gaga.

It’s a chance for your child to chill out, socialize a bit, and return to their main activities feeling refreshed.

End of Day Pick Up

Dismissal time for Future Stars Summer Camp is often around 4:00 P.M., pending the camp program and location.

Before heading home, the coaches and directors usually wrap up the day with a quick review of the activities.

Keep in mind that camps designed for younger kids, or programs at some locations, might have an earlier dismissal. Similarly, the Southampton location has a slightly staggered dismissal time to help with traffic flow.

Does the Daily Routine Change?

For the most part, the daily schedule stays pretty consistent throughout the week. Kids often thrive on routine, and having a predictable structure helps them feel more comfortable. While the timing of things like court time for basketball or tennis might remain similar, the specific activities within those periods will have variety.

Of course, the schedule is always adapted as needed based on the weather. Rainy days are still packed with engaging activities, but tend to be a little less physical than warm, sunny days.

Age groups might also see slight variations in the schedule. For example, younger campers might have slightly shorter activity periods and more built-in water breaks. Extra short games to increase engagement are also common for younger campers.

What About Screen Time?

Generally, screen time isn't a planned part of the program. That said, we do allow for some responsible use by older campers. But, with a packed schedule of activities, there is rarely time for phones.

Helpful Scheduling Tips for Parents

To help your child have a smooth and enjoyable camp experience, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Arrival and Departure: Be mindful of the designated drop-off and pick-up times to ensure a smooth process for everyone.
  • Hydration: Make sure your child brings a labeled water bottle to camp each day. Water stations are available for refills throughout the day.
  • Sun Protection: Remember to send your child with their own sunscreen, and the Future Stars staff will periodically remind them to reapply it during down periods.

What About Special Events and Theme Days?

To keep things extra fun and exciting, each Future Stars location has different themes and special events planned throughout the week and the summer.

These could be anything from a Hawaiian-themed day to a camp Olympics, or even an ice cream truck visit!

Many locations also have a Color Run—a day filled with lots of color and laughter. Plus, depending on the program, Fridays might feature special performances or final competitions to wrap up the week.

On these days, the schedule may vary a little more than usual. Depending on the program, parents might even be invited to some of these events, such as final performances. These tend to be some of the most memorable events of the summer.
