Parents can rest assured that their children’s safety is the top priority at Future Stars. This lets you enjoy peace of mind while your child enjoys a magical summer and an unforgettable camp experience.
Overall Safety Goals at Future Stars
Parents can be confident that all personnel at Future Stars are trained, knowledgeable, and fully prepared for safety contingencies. The comfort and security of your children are the most important goals, and the Future Stars team will always err on the side of caution.
In her review, Jessica V. affirms, “I can’t say enough good things about this camp! From the moment we arrived, everything felt organized, welcoming and fun. The staff clearly care about the kids and create such a positive environment. My child came home every day full of stories and excitement.”
Summer camp is an opportunity for kids to learn new skills, be active, meet new people, and make memories. Future Stars provides a caring, safe, and secure environment so campers can enjoy their adventures.
Future Stars Staff Safety Training and Certifications
Camper safety starts with the Future Stars team. An On-Site Health Director is at every site. Each program is staffed with experts in teaching their specialty and providing a safe environment for campers to learn, grow, and have fun.
The staff is made up of qualified, experienced adults. Not only are many of them professional educators during the school year, but they also have extensive expertise to safely lead their individual camp programs. Parents can be certain that their campers are in good hands!
From site directors to camp counselors and program coaches, staff members at Future Stars undergo annual safety training and follow-up reviews to ensure the well-being and security of campers. This means that at least one person present in every program is certified in both CPR and first aid.
Program directors also undergo specialized training. For example, football coaches receive “heads-up” training (a safety-first program that teaches proper tackling and concussion prevention), and circus coaches have had professional aerial training.
General Safety Protocols
At each Future Stars camp location, staff members coordinate with university police who oversee safety across the campus. This partnership reinforces emergency procedures, ensures security standards are met, and allows for quick and effective responses if ever necessary.
Pick-Up and Drop-Off Safety
Your child is never unsupervised at camp, from the time they are dropped off until they are picked up.
When it comes to drop-off, your child is greeted each day by staff members who are ready to check them in and see that they safely reach the area for their particular camp program.
Come pick-up time, each site has a check-out system for your camper. This ensures that every child is picked up by an authorized adult.
And, rest assured that the excitement of field trips (when applicable, based on your child’s program) is maintained with the same levels of safety that are practiced on campus.
Weather: Keeping Kids Protected in the Heat or During Storms
Outdoor activities play an important part in summer camp fun. But if weather events become a safety issue, Future Stars is ready to adapt so the fun and learning continue!
Some of the safety protocols in place related to weather include:
- Indoor air-conditioned breaks during the day and especially at peak heat hours or unusually hot days
- Extended water breaks to cool off and stay hydrated
- Indoor activities with skill-building exercises during inclement weather conditions
Staying Hydrated and Nourished
With all the fun and activity at Future Stars Summer Camp, kids need to stay hydrated and nourished!
That’s why staff are trained to monitor signs of heat-related conditions and always provide frequent reminders for campers to hydrate.
Every child has access to their water bottle at all times, as well as two snack time breaks each day. Depending on your child’s camp program and campus location, you may have the option to purchase a healthy lunch meal plan, or your child can always bring their lunch from home.
Allergies and Dietary Restrictions
When parents inform camp staff that their children have allergies or dietary restrictions, they can rest assured that these needs will be attended to and met.
All allergy information is shared with relevant team members, and staff are trained to recognize and respond to allergic reactions. If a child requires an EpiPen, it stays with their group at all times to ensure quick access in case of an emergency.
Pool Safety
One of the things kids enjoy most at Future Stars is swimming, playing in the pool, or other water activities. Water fun is a daily highlight, and pool safety is paramount for all campers.
This is why a separate group of highly trained and qualified staff members, in addition to coaches, is present for active supervision whenever kids are in the pool. Aquatics directors and lifeguards hold specific certifications in water safety.
In addition, before making a splash, each child goes through an initial swim evaluation. This helps staff members decide which campers are safe to be in the deep end of the pool and which will enjoy their fun in the shallow end.
Safety Protocols for Illness or Injury
Though injuries and illness are rare, staff members are prepared just in case. Many among the team are certified in first aid and coaches are trained to recognize any potential issues.
In addition, an onsite camp health director is always available to offer guidance at every location.
The health team and program leaders are in communication with each other in case something comes up. Their action plans ensure that each camper receives timely and proper care. If a child experiences any injury or illness, parents or authorized caregivers are informed right away.
Families are also encouraged to keep their campers home if they have a fever or something potentially contagious. This helps minimize the spread of illness. (And staff members follow these guidelines as well!)
Emotional Safety
In addition to physical safety, Future Stars puts a high value on its campers’ emotional safety. This means ensuring that kids feel secure and comfortable during their programs and daily schedule.
All staff members, including coaches, health directors, camp counselors and more, are there to support your child and their well-being. Whether some kids may need one-on-one time to overcome initial nervousness or others find themselves a bit shy about making friends, they will find understanding and encouragement among summer camp staff.
In addition, staff members model treating everyone in an appropriate and respectful manner — and there is zero tolerance for bullying.
